Who we are

Savvas is a post-doctoral scientist with interest in Animal Ecology, Behaviour and Conservation with special focus on reptiles. Thus far, he has participated in numerus EU funded projects (LIFE, COST, Erasmus) assisting in project management, providing scientific expertise and conducting research on animal monitoring and conservation. He holds a B.Sc. (1999-2004) and Ph.D. (2006-2014) in Biology (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and has been awarded a scholarship for Doctoral (PENEK) and Post-Doctoral Research (DIDACTOR) by the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.

Christiana is a Research Fellow at the Cyprus University of Technology and currently a PhD candidate for the Public Health Program of the European University of Cyprus. She has worked on many conservation projects, contributing to data analysis and metanalysis, writing reports in both English and Greek language, has participated in European projects and is holder of two EU COST Virtual Mobility Grants. Her research interests are Vector-Borne Diseases, Biotechnology, Pedagogy in Higher Education, Protected Areas' Restoration and Conservation and Environmental Legislative Frameworks and their implementation

Melios is a Land Surveyor Engineer (Topographer) who graduated from the National Technical University of Athens, in 2007. Currently he is focusing on tasks such as demarcation of plots, topographic surveys, road designs, aerial survey control, elevations, contour lines, drainage and map-creating from source data, using the most recent surveying techniques and equipment. For the past 7 years he has expanded his technical abilities by the use of airborne drones in many of his projects, in order to achieve geological mapping using photogrammetry and producing Digital Terrain Models. He is a licensed A1/A3 & Α2 Drone Pilot, according to the UAS Regulations.

Maria has a B.Sc. in Biology from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece focusing on environmental biology and ecology, studying zoology, marine biology, river and lake ecosystems, among others. She holds a M.Sc. in Oceanography and Management of the Marine Environment from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. She is particularly interested in biological oceanography and ichthyology. She has experience as a Marine Consultant at the private sector as well as a freelance collaborator in various scientific fields. Maria also has administrative and organisational skills stemming from her participation in European funded projects.

Marilena graduated with a B.Sc in Biology from the European University of Cyprus in 2020 and attained her Master’s degree in Environmental Conservation and Management from the Open University of Cyprus in 2022. She conducted her undergraduate thesis on studying the behavior of the lizard Stellagama stellio with the use of accelerometry and has partaken in the projects Retrack and CyROS. Her postgraduate thesis and further research concerns the endemic Cyprus grass snake (Natrix natrix cypriaca) and its distribution on the Troodos range. Marilena also has experience with programming languages, GIS, and statistical applications.
